Look out on the Bay of Naples from Posillipo on the northern coast. Enjoy the storied view past the beautiful houses that line the water's edge, and the marinas with yachts bobbing down below to Mount Vesuvius. The crater-like Campi Flegrei, a volcanic caldera cluster also known as the "Fiery Fields," is also in view.
Go into the old city, through the maze of tiny streets and narrow alleys, breathing in the history of this famous Italian city. Spaccanapoli heaves straight through the center of the old city, the main street that defines the culinary wonder of Naples with the pizzerias, bakeries, trattorias, and shops. Many of the stunning palazzos and churches of Naples are just a few footsteps away from the Spaccanapoli.
Take in the Baroque wonder of San Gregorio Armeno, a church, and monastery that dates back to the 16th century. Cattedrale di San Gennaro, or the Naples Cathedral, has frescos and canvasses, some with mosaics dating as far back as the 4th century. If you visit in May or September, perhaps you will chance on the Miracle of the Blood, when a vial of the blood of Saint Januarius is shown to the congregation. Visit many of the great sites of Naples at once with a stop at the Piazza del Plebiscito with the curved facade of the church of San Francesco di Paola, the Opera of San Carlo, the Galleria Umberto I, and, of course, the stoic face of the Royal Palace, all there for your viewing pleasure.
You'll have the opportunity to purchase a traditional Neapolitan pizza at one of the city's many wonderful pizzerias for lunch. In the afternoon, your driver will bring you to witness the epic history of Pompeii. The ancient Roman city still stands as an archaeological site and is a must-see for anybody who enjoys the history and mythology of Italy.
When you have finished exploring the ruins of Pompeii, your driver will return to Naples. Please Note: This tour is self-paced with a custom itinerary of your choosing. The tour does not include entrance fees, parking fees, tolls, or gratuities.
Though your English-speaking driver can provide commentary while driving you around, they cannot act as a guide outside of the car. The driver will be happy to make suggestions about the best places to eat throughout the day.
